Introduction

I dream of being a scientist! I love computers and gaming. In fact, my first computer was a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k, which I would spend hours coding from a magazine called Crash. At current I like Mac, Mint, Ubuntu and Windows 10 and I love to code in Python (3.2) and Java OOP. Since object orientated programming is very versatile, I find I enjoy building code that sorts data and solves problems with it. I love computer science because it means i have something to offer biology and physics and it also lays the foundation for medical research and other sciences because of the algorithms involved. Looking for an internship or work experience in computing and IT.

I used to volunteer at Cambridge online supporting people with basic computer skills such as using a mouse and keyboard or help with learning to use a browser or filling out online forms. I really enjoy helping people with computing.

I used to volunteer as ambassador, which involves going to events and explaining what Cambridge online is about. This is a lot of fun since i like meeting new people and networking. In my time as Ambassador i have written a blog for Cambridge Network.

By T. McDonald | 2/07/19 You may have heard of API’s and wondered what you can do with them. This is a simple but satisfying use of this powerful technology. What is API? Application programming interface. What does it do? An API will allow communication between two applications. The API I am using is a publicly available web-based API , which returns data as in JSON or XML.  In other words, I send a message to a stated website and request some data, in this case images are then returned to me.  Using python 2 is a little different in the coding.  It is worth noting that the ['file'] at the end of json.loads() may be different in the website you are connecting to.  I connected to randomcat.com .    Hope you enjoyed this quick blog.  Please leave a comment below.

By McDonald. T |  July 14th 2018   The 80s was a great time for gaming. For a while, gamers had been able to alleviate the boredom with dedicated gaming devices such as Asteroid and Donkey Kong. However, things really got going when gaming consoles like Atari 2600 hit the market. Even so, nothing compared to the new home computers like Commodore 64 and the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k. These computers not only had tons of games, but also you could program your own software including games.  Sign up to my blog for more fun stuff! The gaming consoles had the advantage of instant loading from a cartridge while the home computers needed to load games from a tape in a tape recorder, which was not always successful. This could take 5 minutes or more and the sound level had to be just right or the game would fail to load.
